“If you judge people you have no time to love them” – Mother Teresa. When we get to learn about others and respect our similarities and our differences, we get to learn so much more about the world and ourselves. While working on our transdisciplinary theme “Who We Are”, AA Grade 1 students inquired about the importance of accepting, respecting and showing empathy towards each other’s differences and similarities. One student took action and invited her aunt who has Anoxia neonatal or infant brain damage to class in order to shed light on how important it is not to judge others by their differences. At the end of the visit they noticed that they have a lot of similarities with Elizabeth such as drawing and swimming. This special visit was a reinforcement to the central ideal “Accepting our differences can help us live with others” and the students realized that with acceptance you can live in harmony and peace.
